A Message From Your Perry Township Trustees…
The Perry Township Board of Trustees would like to recognize and thank everyone who participated in the Perry Township Bicentennial Celebrations~ 2014.
A special thanks to all of the Bicentennial committee members who participated in the planning and implementation of our year long community celebration.
We began the festivities with the Perry Township Bicentennial Kick Off Dinner, hosted at the Exploration Gateway. Over 100 community members enjoyed fellowship, and viewed a variety of photos depicting the rich History of Perry Township. We also experienced an exquisite catered dinner, danced the night away while enjoying a live band, and visited with community members. It was a night to remember!
Together in partnership, there were numerous well planned educational and social opportunities presented by our friends at Stark Parks, the Sippo Branch Library and the Perry History Club. In May we gathered together at the Perry High School Fallen Heroes Memorial for the Third Annual Flags of Freedom Memorial Ceremony, and once again publicly honored those individuals and families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. In August, the Rotary of Perry Township hosted their first Perry Rotary Cruise In, in recognition of our Bicentennial, as well as displaying the Perry Township Bicentennial logo on the annual Rotary Turkey Trot shirt in 2014!
We experienced several "firsts" community events such as The HERO 5K Run/Walk, The Taste of Perry, The OKTOBERFEST and our very first Perry Township Community Parade! Our Bicentennial celebrations went full swing all the way through November, with the Light Up Perry Christmas Lighting Contest, and in December at the Closing Ceremonies held at the Richville Grange, where we enjoyed the eloquent ice sculpting, food, fellowship, and even a visit with Santa! The Original Farm Families of Perry Township, and our Bicentennial Sponsors were also invited and recognized with a framed certificate of recognition during the Closing Ceremonies.
The support of our sponsors was vital. Our celebrations would have never come to fruition without their generosity!
The Board would like to recognize the Bicentennial Chairperson, Steve Toohey and the Vice Chairperson Tim Blythe for their time, coordination and presentation of the Bicentennial monthly committee meetings. Special recognition of Bicentennial Treasurer~ Dave Dolan and Secretary, Barbra Lewis. Many thanks for the efforts of the members of the Bicentennial Marketing Committee. We would also like to recognize The Perry Township History Club for hosting numerous events, and Carey Coates who devoted endless hours to creating historical displays which were proudly shared with our community members on several occasions throughout the year.
Last but not least…The Board of Trustees would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Perry Township residents, past and present whose community pride, dedication, and dignity have been a vital part of the Perry Township Community for 200 years.
Several of these first time events will be celebrated in 2015 as 2nd Annual Events. Please view the menu to the left for upcoming events, A collaborative list of upcoming 2015 Community Events will be posted in the near future.
